This motor is powered from the mains via a 12v adaptor, and is ideal for situations where you need maximum power, or where you want to have a K'NEX model running for long periods of time.
The 12v motor is included in some large K'NEX sets such as the 6ft (1.8m) Ferris wheel. It needs a 90983 K'NEX Gear White to operate.
You can buy the 12v motor and gear wheel in our K'NEX shop.

If you live in the UK, mainland Europe or Australia, you can also buy a 12v mains adaptor from us to operate your 12v motor.
We apologise that we can no longer supply a mains adaptor for this motor for use in the USA.
However, such adaptors are readily available from online suppliers of low voltage electrical products in the USA, such as Amazon.
We are advised that the adaptor specification is as follows:
Input voltage: As per local requirements (eg 120v 60Hz for USA)
Output voltage: 12V DC
Output current: Between 500mA and 1A
Output plug dimensions: Minimum length 10mm (0.393 inch), Outer diameter 5.5mm (0.217 inch) approx., Inner diameter 2.1mm (0.083 inch) approx.
Output plug polarity: The manufacturers of K'NEX have supplied adaptors for the 12v motor over the years which have either a "centre positive" or a "centre negative" polarity. The polarity determines whether the motor turns clockwise or anticlockwise. This probably does not matter for a Ferris wheel, but will make a difference if the motor is driving (for instance) a chain drive.
To attach the motor, first push rods through the two holes in the underside of the motor so as to connect it to the model, as shown.
Then complete the assembly as shown, so that the teeth of the white gear on the red rod engage with the worm gear on the motor shaft.
