K'NEX in the Design & Technology curriculum

K'NEX activities can be carried out by all ages of pupil to meet the requirements of the Design and Technology curriculum, including:
  • Focused practical tasks
  • Use of construction kits
  • Designing skills
  • Making skills
  • Understanding structures
  • Understanding simple mechanisms
  • Designing and making products

Many K'NEX projects only require K'NEX rods, connectors and wheels, but K'NEX can also be usefully extended with other equipment and materials, for instance:

1. Extra K'NEX parts, such as motors, gear wheels and solar panels. These may be viewed in the Technology 2 enjoy K'NEX shop.

2. Simple electrical circuits, such as a K'NEX lighthouse, or K'NEX house with burglar alarms.

3. Paper or card, such as a K'NEX castle with walls, or a K'NEX fan with card blades.

The User Group K'NEX shop includes numerous K'NEX education sets that explore particular aspects of the Design & Technology curriculum.

The Free downloads page and the More Free downloads page include sample lesson plans for:
  • K'NEX UK curriculum guide - Wheels, axles and inclined planes
  • K'NEX UK curriculum guide - Levers & pulleys
  • K'NEX UK curriculum guide - Gears
